The Privacy Foundation has made a submission to Parliament’s Justice Select Committee on the Bill. The amendment inserts a new Information privacy principle 3A into the Privacy Act, requiring individuals to be informed when information about them is collected indirectly (from someone else). The submission calls for the exception for “publicly available information” not to extend to where such information is collected by web-scraping. Here is the full submission:
