Inland Revenue and two business groups in the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment are proposing to sign up to a new approved information sharing agreement (AISA). The AISA would allow them to share more information to detect harmful company practices such as setting up “phoenix” companies, or significant breaches of director’s duties.

The Privacy Foundation made a submission on the proposals. Generally, there seems to be a sound basis to share information for the defined purposes, but we recommend some amendments and clarifications.
